How do I clear conditional formatting from a cell or range?
There are two main ways to clear conditional formatting from a cell or range in Excel:
Method 1: Using the Clear Rules Option
1. Select the cells: Click and drag your mouse to select the cells containing the conditional formatting you want to remove.
2. Go to Conditional Formatting: Navigate to the "Home" tab on the Excel ribbon. In the "Styles" group, click the dropdown arrow under "Conditional Formatting."
3. Clear Rules: Select "Clear Rules" from the dropdown menu.
4. Choose Clear Scope (Optional): A submenu will appear with two options:
- Clear Rules from Selected Cells: This removes formatting only from the selected cells.
- Clear Rules from Entire Sheet: This removes all conditional formatting rules applied to the entire worksheet.
5. Click the desired option: Choose "Clear Rules from Selected Cells" to remove formatting from your selection, or "Clear Rules from Entire Sheet" if you want to clear all formatting rules on the sheet.
Method 2: Using the Clear Formats Option
1. Select the cells: Similar to method 1, select the cells with the conditional formatting you want to clear.
2. Go to Clear: Navigate to the "Home" tab. In the "Editing" group, click the down arrow next to "Clear."
3. Choose Clear Formats: From the dropdown menu, select "Clear Formats." This will remove all formatting from the selected cells, including conditional formatting, number formatting, font styles, etc.
Tips:
* You can use keyboard shortcuts for faster access:
- Clear Rules from Selected Cells: Alt + H + L + F (Hold down Alt key, then press H, L, and F keys in sequence)
- Clear Formats: Alt + H + L + F (Same shortcut as above)
* If you only want to clear specific formatting rules and keep others, you can manage the rules directly using the "Conditional Formatting" dropdown menu and then select "Manage Rules."
