How to sort and filter data on a chart in Excel?

While you can't directly sort and filter data on a chart itself in Excel, there are a couple of workarounds to achieve similar results:

Method 1: Sorting and Filtering the Underlying Data

1. Select the chart: Click on your chart to make it active.
2. Go to source data: Look at the chart legend or hover over the chart elements to identify the cells linked to the chart data.
3. Sort or filter the data: Select the data range behind the chart and use the Sort & Filter options on the Data tab. Sorting or filtering the data will automatically update the linked chart to reflect the changes.

Method 2: Using Slicers or Filter Buttons (if applicable)

1. Check for slicers or filter buttons: If your chart is connected to a table or PivotTable, you might see slicers or filter buttons next to the chart. These allow you to interactively filter the data used to generate the chart.
2. Use slicers or filter buttons: Click on the slicer or filter button for the column you want to filter. Select the options you want to display in the chart and the chart will update accordingly.

Additional Considerations:

* Sorting and filtering the underlying data gives you more control over the sorting order and filtering criteria.
* Slicers and filter buttons offer a user-friendly way to interact with the chart data for quick exploration.
* Remember, any changes to the underlying data will also be reflected in the chart.

By using these methods, you can achieve the desired sorting and filtering effects on your chart in Excel.
